Physician Assessment - Phase I
 |
Phase I of the program is a two-day assessment that
uses a variety of evaluation methods to provide an overall picture of the
physician's skills, knowledge, and physical health. Components of the
assessment program include (Click each to expand for further description.):
- Practice Profile
Every physician is required to complete
a number of self report forms prior to scheduling the assessment. Including, but not limited to:
practice profile tool, personal intake inventory, physical/mental health questionnaires.
-
Chart Review
The participant provides a random sample of redacted
chart entries which are assessed for overall quality, organization, legibility, proper documentation, and
billing/coding.
-
360° Evaluation
Educational tool used to provide you, the physician, with
information about your medical practice through the eyes of those you work with and serve. Some physicians may not
be required or eligible to take a "360° Assessment" as part of the 2-Phase assessment.
- Oral (or Written) Clinical Examination
This is most commonly done by way of a mock oral exam.
It is conducted by a faculty member in the same specialty or background as the participating physician.
- Written Exams
Participants will take a number of written multiple-choice
question exams created by the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME). The selection of exams administered will vary by examinee.
Topics covered may include: Ethics and Communication, Mechanisms of Disease, Pharmacotherapeutics, and an exam specific to the participant's
field of practice.
- Computer Based Case Simulation
Participants manage cases in order to assess
their clinical decision-making and patient management skills.
- History and Physical Skills Exam
Participants are evaluated performing a history
and physical exam on a mock patient.
- Comprehensive Physical and Mental Health Screening
Evaluation of the participating physician's
physical and mental health by way of self reported forms, physical exam and computerized cognitive screening program.
- Exit Interview
Face-to-face interview after completing the assessment to
receive feedback.

After the completion of the assessment, we hold a multidisciplinary staff
meeting to discuss the participant’s results and generate recommendations for
further evaluation,
